About PCI India: –
PCI India, a registered Indian society, has been working in India for the past 28 years. We drive interventions to transform the lives of communities at scale by solving complex development problems. In the past year, PCI India reached more than 2 crore (20 million) people across 200+ districts in 23 states
About the Project: –
With support from the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), PCI India has been implementing the Decentralized Energy for Women’s Economic Empowerment (DEWEE) program since December 2024. The program aims to improve the incomes of 500,000 women entrepreneurs across India by 2030 through the adoption of Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) technologies and capacity building in DRE installation, operation, and maintenance. Launched in Uttar Pradesh in February 2025 in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UPSRLM), DEWEE has already enabled the DRE transition of over 3,500 women-led enterprises, benefiting more than 4,000 women entrepreneurs and mobilizing USD 1 million in viability gap funding. Building on these achievements, the program is now expanding to several states, including Maharashtra. Maharashtra has emerged as a priority state for DEWEE intervention, supported by the strong institutional presence of MSRLM and the state’s significant potential for decentralised renewable energy (DRE) applications across women-led livelihoods and enterprises. The opportunity is further strengthened by PCI India’s existing collaboration with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and HSBC under the DEWEE initiative, which brings together technical expertise, financing, and strategic support to enable women-led enterprises to adopt productive-use renewable energy solutions. PCI India’s scoping assessment further highlights strong demand for renewable energy solutions among women-led enterprises and households, presenting a timely opportunity to establish a scalable DRE ecosystem that enhances livelihoods, reduces energy costs, and promotes sustainable economic growth.
