  • Location: Meghalaya (Local-based at Banana & Pineapple Fibre Extraction and Fabric Making Unit)
  • Duration: Till March 2027
  • Type: Project Based
  • Qualification: Graduate/Postgraduate degree in Rural Development, Textile technology, Agriculture/Agribusiness, Development studies or a related field.
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in livelihood projects, rural enterprise development, or textile processing.
    • Demonstrated experience in community mobilization, strengthening producer organizations and value chain developments for rural enterprises.
    • Experience working with government programs, NGOs, or private sector initiatives is desirable.

Skills and Attribute

  • Strong understanding of rural livelihoods, enterprise development, and value chain approaches.
  • Experience in SHG/community institution building, governance, and capacity strengthening.
  • Knowledge of market linkage strategies, including for natural fibre/textile or handicraft-based products. Ability to design training curricula and capacity-building plans for community-based enterprises.
  • Strong analytical, planning, Communication and report writing skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and coordination skills with government departments, SHGs, and private sector partners.
  • Sensitivity to the socio-cultural and tribal community context of Meghalaya/Northeast India.

About the Project

PCI India is implementing multi-state livelihood programmes across Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Sikkim, supporting women and youth from rural and tribal communities to build micro-enterprises in bamboo craft, banana and pineapple fibre textiles, and community-led eco-tourism. The programme provides capacity building, tools and services, exposure, and market linkages to strengthen socio-economic resilience and promote inclusive, climate-resilient growth.

Within the programme, a dedicated pineapple fibre enterprise intervention is being implemented in Meghalaya to establish SHG-led fibre extraction and weaving units. The intervention converts agricultural waste (pineapple leaf biomass) into eco-fabric for fashion, packaging, and other value-added markets, combining technical training with market linkage support to build sustainable, climate-resilient livelihoods for women and youth.

The program integrates appropriate technology, quality production processes, artisan skill development, and sustainable resource utilisation.

The Role

The Livelihood Expert will provide overall technical and strategic guidance to strengthen SHG-led enterprise development, ensure the intervention is designed and implemented in a financially and socially sustainable manner, and support convergence with market and livelihood ecosystems in the state.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for the design, planning, and implementation of the pineapple fiber livelihood intervention
  • Strengthen SHG institutional capacity for enterprise management, governance, and financial sustainability.
  • Facilitate market linkages and value chain development for pineapple fiber-based products.
  • Support monitoring of livelihood outcomes and implementation strategies as needed.

Recruitment Process

  3. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for one or more rounds of panel interviews.

The complete process usually takes 2–3 weeks. Candidates moving to the final round will hear from the People & Culture team. In‑person meetings are preferred, but virtual meetings are conducted where distance is a constraint.
