Position – Project Officer

Reporting Line Director – Gender & Adolescent Girls

Duration – 24 months (possibility of extension as per performance)

Location – Darjeeling

 Job description 

The incumbent will work as project lead on-site. Reporting to the Director – Gender and Adolescents, the project officer will be responsible for timely implementation of project activities with quality. The Project officer will serve as the techno-managerial guide for the team on site. The project officer will also support director in budget management.

 Key roles and responsibilities for Project Officer (PO):

  • Launch the project in the selected tea gardens
  • Engaging with tea garden authorities and functionaries to ensure seamless operations in different open and closed tea gardens.
  • Engage with WBSRLM at district and below levels for smooth engagement and alignment of activities.
  • Engage with other line departments of government at district and below levels as per requirements of the project.
  • Managing project activities in alignment with timelines and quality standards.
  • Support director in budget management
  • Train the team on different skillsets and knowledge areas as per project requirements
  • Building team capacity through training and mentorship.
  • Documenting project progress, including data collection and reporting.
  • Any other work as asked by Supervisor.

 About the Project: 

PCI is initiating project Empowering Women in West Bengal’s Tea Gardens: Building Safe Spaces, which is about building collective agency of women and girls and the larger community to address prevailing GBV at the tea gardens and for overall community development. This project is to be implemented in selected tea gardens of Darjeeling.

Qualifications & Experience

  1. A master’s degree in management, social work, or gender studies from a reputed institution.
  2. Experience of working in the areas of social development, livelihoods, skills training and gender trainings.
  3. Minimum 3-5 years of experience of working in tea garden settings in North Bengal and familiarity with local issues related to GBV and community mobilization.
  4. Working experience with WBSRLM and other government departments for welfare of women and girls in the region
  1. Is local to the region – North Bengal tea garden region (Darjeeling/Kalimpong etc.)
  1. Have training and meeting facilitation skills in local language.
  2. Have experience in developing training content, training plan etc..
  1. Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, short deadline environment.
  1. Proficiency in MS Office – PowerPoint, excel, word etc.
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, Hindi, and local languages.

Recruitment Process

  3. Group Discussions may be part of the interview process for certain positions.
  4. The process could also include presentation of the assignment.
  5. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend one or more rounds of panel interview/s.
